Small- centers help a diverse clientele find solutionsto their operating dilemmas. Following are a number of new orinnovative programs around the nation:

  • At the University of Massachusetts, Boston, the MinorityBusiness Assistance Center offers programs ranging from freeone-on-one counseling sessions to an intensive 20-weekentrepreneurial training course. Graduates of the course, which issponsored by the Bank of Boston and the Massachusetts SmallBusiness Development Center, will have a completed business planand the know-how to approach a bank for a loan. In addition, thecenter participates in the 's Minority Pre-QualificationPilot Loan Program. Call (617) 287-7750 for moreinformation.
  • A partnership of the SBA, the U.S. Department of CommerceMinority Business Development Agency, NationsBank, Bell South andthe Georgia Institute of has resulted in the AtlantaSmall Business Resource Center (SBRC). Entrepreneurs can takeadvantage of free counseling and low-cost seminars and workshops;they can also utilize the center's resource library andcomputers for access or to write business plans and createbrochures.
